£225,000 boost for cultural festivals

As part of efforts to increase cultural tourism to the region, Belfast City Council has unveiled plans to establishi itself as the "City of Festivals".

The council has earmarked £225,000 worth of funding to promote events and is inviting applications from Belfast-based organisations with a track record in delivering large scale cultural festivals with an audience reach of at least 10,000 people.

The council will financially assist events that fit the criteria and are held between 1 June 2010 and 30 June 2011.

The maximum amount of funding available to each organisation is £25,000.
